This charming city has gained a wonderful place to live, in the form of Handbogenhof. The departure of the Paradijs residential care centre, created an extraordinary opportunity to redevelop this site.

In the heart of Lier
Handbogenhof lies inside the green walls of Lier. A beautiful location within walking distance of the Grote Markt and the Zimmerplein.
The project links the historic structures of the former ramparts, Kapucijnenvest, and the walls along the restored houses of worship with modern architecture.
Green courtyard garden
The green courtyard garden is the central focus of the new design. Around this garden, there is the service centre, 35 social apartments for the elderly, neighbourhood-support functions and some 90 private apartments.
The design of the low-traffic internal square was inspired by the many picturesque corners and squares in Lier.
It is bisected by a promenade with a splendid view of the top of the Saint Gummarus Church. The underground car park has space for some 100 vehicles.
Handbogenhof is a pleasant environment for both young families and elderly people to live in. The design particularly took into account how these people could live here in comfort. For example, all the apartments have a level-access terrace.

Handbogenhof is located on the site of the former Paradise retirement and care home, on Kanunnik Davidlaan in Lier.
